Research Support from the Asociación Contisuyo
The Asociación Contisuyo supports foreign and Peruvian-directed archaeological fieldwork and artifact analysis in the Departamento of Moquegua with non-financial, in-kind assistance such as
- Use of a field vehicle (charitably described as "old but functional")
- Loan of larger field equipment, such as screens and shovels
- Assistance with room and board
- Use of the Asociación's three-bedroom furnished apartment in Ciudad Nueva (adjacent to Ilo)
- Logistical help with renting living and work spaces in Ilo, Moquegua, or elsewhere
- Logistical help with making arrangements for feeding project members
- Use of laboratory facilities at the Museo Contisuyo in Moquegua
- Long-term storage of collections and documentation at the Museo
- Access to collections and related documentation for laboratory study, with written authorization from the investigator responsible for the material
- Access to the Museo's specialized library of archaeological references, many unpublished
- Internet access, email, telephone, fax, and regular mail communications
- Other forms of support may also be negotiated
This Contisuyo support in kind complements a project's other sources of funding. Contisuyo cannot offer financial help to foreign or Peruvian projects. Projects funded under matching funds arrangements may be able to count Contisuyo's support towards their match requirements. Project support depends upon the number and size of requests each year, and evaluation of the project's potential and urgency by members of the Advisory Board of the Asociación Contisuyo.
All field projects must be properly authorized by the Instituto Nacional de Cultura. Obtaining an INC permit is the responsibility of each investigator, and since the Museo is located far from the main INC offices in Lima, we unfortunately cannot offer much help with this important part of the process.
If you are interested in submitting a research proposal, please contact Dr. Patrick Ryan Williams, Director of the Advisory Board of the Asociación Contisuyo, for current availablity of facilities.
