Moquegua is a four to six hour bus or collectivo trip south from Arequipa, on a short spur off the Panamerican highway between Tacna and Arequipa. Tacna is about two hours away, and Ilo is about one hour away.
The main entrance of the Museo Contisuyo is right on the Plaza de Armas of Moquegua, through the grand doorway of the ruined cathedral on the downhill side of the Plaza. (As of September 2004, this doorway was closed for seismic retrofitting. The temporary entrance to the museum is through another old church doorway halfway down Jirón Tacna, which runs along the right side of the Plaza as you face the ruined cathedral.)
